The verse

Literal translation

What it means

A gōpī-elders'-complaint-but-they-too-forget abhang. Five claims:

1. चाळवूनि नाशिली कन्याकुमरें — आमुच्या सुनांसि लाविलें पिसें — misled — ruined our girls-and-boys — put pisē in our daughters-in-law. The opening-complaint: Krishna has misled (cāḷavūnī, deceived/lured) and ruined our girls-and-boys; put pisē (madness) in our suṇā (daughters-in-law). The gōpī-elders'-complaint about Krishna's-effect on the next-generation.

2. मिळोनि सकळै जणी करूं वाखा — तुज मज होईल तुटी — meeting all together — we'll say vākhā — but tuṭī between you and me will happen. The threat-of-confrontation: we'll meet together and reproach; but a tuṭī (break, rupture) will happen between you and me. The threat is half-hearted; the rupture-fear.

3. शिंकीं कडा फोडी गोरसाचे डेरे — धरितां न सांपडे करीं — breaks śinkīm — gōrasa-ḍērē — doesn't get caught by hand. The concrete-mischief catalogue: breaks the rope-hooks holding the milk-pots, smashes the gōrasa-ḍērē (curd-pots); doesn't get caught by hand. The butter-thief image (compare 388).

4. अर्थ प्राण देतां न सोडी सर्वथा — भलतें हो या जिवाचें — gives wealth-life — doesn't release at all — whatever happens to this jīva. The contract-claim: (He) gives wealth and life — yet does not release at all; whatever may happen to this jīva. He gives generously and holds firmly.

5. देखोनि तुकयास्वामी देश देहभाव विसरल्या सकळा — seeing Tukya-svāmī — all forgot deha-bhāva, friend. The closing-revelation: upon seeing Tukya-svāmī (the deva), all (the complaining gōpī-elders) forgot deha-bhāva. The complainants forget themselves; the protest dissolves in darśana.

This abhang names the gōpī-elders-complain-then-forget register:

1. Krishna ruins worldly-attachments by drawing the next generation to bhakti. Cāḷavūnī nāśilī kanyā-kumarē. The deva interrupts the worldly-trajectory; parents may complain that bhakti has ruined their children for the world. Recognize this complaint as evidence of bhakti's-genuineness.

2. The threat-of-confrontation often dissolves. Tuja maja hōīla tuṭī. The complainants' threat to confront the deva is half-hearted; they fear the tuṭī (rupture) more than the deva's-mischief.

3. The deva is uncatchable by hand. Dharitām na sāmpaḍē karī. Don't try to catch the deva and force the rupture; He doesn't get caught.

4. He gives wealth-life and doesn't release. Artha prāṇa dētām na sōḍī sarvathā. The deva's-contract: He gives generously and holds firmly. Don't expect to keep His gifts and avoid His grip.

5. On seeing Him, all forget deha-bhāva*. Dēkhōnī Tukya-svāmī — dēha-bhāva visaralyā sakaḷā. The complainants themselves forget themselves on seeing; the protest dissolves into the darśana*.

For today: if your worldly-trajectory is interrupted by bhakti, recognize this as the deva's-effect, not failure; don't trust complaints about ruination — the bhakti-effect is the genuine-good; don't try to catch the deva by force — He won't be caught; trust the give-and-hold contract; expect your own deha-bhāva to dissolve in darśana — even if you came to complain.

This abhang is the gōpī-elders'-protest-dissolved-in-darśana image: the protest itself is the prelude to the absorption. (Compare Bhāgavata's gōpīs-mothers' complaints to Yaśodā that dissolve when they see Krishna.)

मराठी: ही ओवी gōpī-elders-complain-then-forget register नाव सांगते:

1. Krishna अगली-generation ला bhakti कडे drawn करून worldly-attachments ruin करतो. चाळवूनि नाशिली कन्याकुमरें. Deva worldly-trajectory interrupt करतो; Parents complain करतील की bhakti ने त्यांच्या children world साठी ruin केलं. हा complaint bhakti-genuineness चा evidence म्हणून ओळखा.

2. Threat-of-confrontation सहसा dissolve होतो. तुज मज होईल तुटी. Complainants चा deva ला confront करायचा threat half-hearted; Deva-mischief पेक्षा tuṭī (rupture) जास्त fear.

3. Deva हाताने uncatchable. धरितां न सांपडे करीं. Deva ला catch करून rupture force करायचा प्रयत्न नका; पकडला जात नाही.

4. त्याने wealth-life दिलं तरी release करत नाही. अर्थ प्राण देतां न सोडी सर्वथा. Deva चा contract: Generously देतो आणि firmly धरतो. त्याची gifts ठेवायच्या आणि त्याची पकड टाळायची expect नका.

5. त्याला पाहून सर्व deha-bhāva* विसरतात. देखोनि तुकयास्वामी — देहभाव विसरल्या सकळा. Complainants स्वतःच पाहताना स्वतःला विसरतात; Protest darśana मध्ये dissolve होतो*.

आज: तुमचा worldly-trajectory bhakti ने interrupt झाला तर — failure नाही, deva-effect म्हणून ओळखा; Ruination च्या complaints वर trust नका — bhakti-effect genuine-good; Force ने deva पकडायचा प्रयत्न नका — पकडला जात नाही; Give-and-hold contract वर trust करा; तुमचंही deha-bhāva darśana मध्ये dissolve होईल expect करा — protest करायला आला तरी.
