What it means
A don't-release-me-make-patita-pāvana-true abhang. Third of the Tukyā-bamdhu (Kānhōbā) cluster. Four claims:
-
नेणें गाऊं कांहीं धड बोलतां वचन — कायावाचामनेंसहित आलों शरण — don't know to sing well, speak vacana straight — came śaraṇa with kāyā-vāca-mana. The opening-confession: I don't know how to sing well or speak straight; (but) with kāyā-vāca-mana (body-speech-mind) I have come śaraṇa**.
-
The take-up-and-don't-release petition: take me up (angīkāra); don't mōkalūm (release / abandon), Hari; make the patita-pāvana brīdē (epithet "purifier-of-the-fallen") kharī (true). Honor-Your-epithet*.
-
नेणें भक्तिभाव तुझा म्हणवितों दास — जरि देसी अंतर तरि लज्जा कोणास — don't know bhakti-bhāva — called Your dāsa — if You give antara, for whom is lajjā? The for-whom-the-shame challenge: I don't know bhakti-bhāva; but I am called Your dāsa; if You give antara (gap / abandonment), for whom is the lajjā? (compare 0478 kavaṇā lāja; same challenge). Mutual-honor-stake.
-
म्हणे तुकयाबंधु तुझे धरियेले पाये — आतां कोण दुजा ऐसा आम्हांसी आहे — Tukyā-bamdhu says: Your feet held — now, who-other like You for us? The closing-claim: I have held Your feet; now, who-other like You is for us? Exclusivity-claim.

For someone today
This abhang names the don't-release-make-Your-bridge-true register:
-
Confess: I don't know to sing or speak straight, but I came śaraṇa* with all-three. Nēṇē — śaraṇa kāyā-vāca-mana. Don't pretend skill; come śaraṇa with body-speech-mind*.
-
Take me up; make Your patita-pāvana brīdē kharī*. Angīkāra — patita-pāvana brīdē kharī. The deva is patita-pāvana (purifier-of-the-fallen) by epithet; make-this-true-on-me. Honor-Your-epithet challenge*.
-
If You give antara, for whom is the lajjā*? Antara — kavaṇā lajjā. If the deva abandons His-named-dāsa, the shame is the deva's; the bhakta has standing to ask*.
-
Who-other like You for us? Kōṇa dujā aisā āmhāmsi āhē. Exclusivity-claim: no second like You. Don't-release-because-no-substitute.
For today: come śaraṇa without skill-pretense; demand the deva make-His-epithet-true on you; the antara-shame is the deva's, not yours; exclusivity-claim: who-other like You.
This abhang is Kānhōbā's honor-Your-epithet petition — the deva is patita-pāvana, make this true on me. Compare 0478 same kavaṇā-lāja challenge.
Honor-Your-epithet challenge*.
-
Don't-release-because-no-substitute.
0478 same kavaṇā-lāja challenge compare.
Where this applies

- Make patita-pāvana brīdē kharī. Honor-epithet.
