Abhanga 757

Holding God's name close severed my ties to worldly life so completely that I have crossed over, and now nothing stands in the way, nothing remains.

When I have crossed across; the resolve is true — and you have to recognize this register

When Your nāma at throat broke samsāra-tie — and you accept this image

When no bādhā anywhere; nothing remaining — and you receive this final certainty

The verse

उतरलों पार । सत्य झाला हा निर्धार ॥१॥ तुझें नाम धरिलें कंठीं । केली संसारासी तुटी ॥ध्रु.॥ आतां नव्हे बाधा । कोणेविशीं कांहीं कदा ॥२॥ तुका म्हणे कांहीं । आतां उरलें ऐसें नाहीं ॥३॥

Literal translation

Utaralōm pāra — satya — nirdhāra. Your nāma — kaṇṭha — samsāra — tuṭī. Now — no bādhā — anywhere — any-time. Tuka says: anything — remaining-now — none.

मराठी: उतरलों पार — सत्य झाला हा निर्धार. तुझें नाम कंठीं धरिलें — संसारासी तुटी केली. आतां बाधा नाही — कोणे-विशीं काहीं कदा. Tuka म्हणे: कांहीं — आतां उरलें ऐसें नाहीं.

What it means

A crossed-across-Your-nāma-at-kaṇṭha-broke-samsāra-tuṭī-no-bādhā-nothing-remaining abhang. Crossed-resolved register. Three claims:

उतरलों पार — सत्य निर्धार — तुझें नाम कंठीं — संसारासी तुटी. Utaralōm-pāra-Your-nāma-at-throat-tie-broken-claim. I haveutaralōm pāra(crossed-across, dis-embarked-at-the-far-shore); true has-become thisnirdhāra(resolve, conclusion); I have held Yournāmaat thekaṇṭha; (thereby) made-the-tuṭī (break, severance) with samsāra. Crossed-far-shore-because-of-nāma-at-throat-and-samsāra-tie-broken.
आतां बाधा नाहीं — कोणे-विशीं कदा. No-bādhā-anywhere-any-time-claim. Now there is nobādhā(obstruction, harm); anywhere, any-time. No-bādhā-anywhere-any-time.
Tuka: कांहीं — आतां उरलें ऐसें नाहीं. Nothing-remaining-now-claim. Tuka says: anything — remaining-now — there is no-such (thing). Nothing-remaining.

For someone today

Tukaram declares that he has crossed over to the far shore, and this is now a settled, true resolve. He has kept God's name close at his throat, and that has severed his ties to worldly life completely. Now nothing can trouble him, anywhere, at any time. Tuka says there is simply nothing left remaining to be done.

मराठी: तुकाराम म्हणतात, मी पार उतरलो आहे, आणि हा निर्धार आता खरा, पक्का झाला आहे. तुझे नाम मी कंठाशी धरले, आणि त्यामुळे संसाराशी असलेला माझा संबंध पूर्णपणे तुटला. आता कुठेही, कधीही कसलीही बाधा उरलेली नाही. तुका म्हणतात, आता काहीच शिल्लक उरलेले नाही.
