Tukārām calls himself God's surrendered servant, stamped as belonging to Him birth after birth, with no other longing left in him except for God. His only song, he says, is the chanting of God's name, and he describes wearing that name the way a person wears jewelry, something visible and carried with pride. It is a picture of devotion as identity rather than occasional practice, something you wear, sing, and carry with you across a lifetime, not something you pick up and put down.

तुझा शरणागत । जन्मोजन्मींचा अंकित ॥१॥ आणीक नेणें कांहीं हेवा । तुजवांचूनि केशवा ॥ध्रु.॥ हें चि माझें गाणें । तुझें नामसंकीर्तन ॥२॥ तुझ्या नामाचीं भूषणें । तुका म्हणे ल्यालों लेणें ॥३॥
Literal translation
Your śaraṇāgata — janma-janma — ankita. Another — hēvā — don't-know — except — You — Kēśava. This — my gāṇē — Your — nāma-sankīrtana. Your nāma's bhūṣaṇē — Tuka says: lyālōm — lēṇē.
