This abhang is one of Tukaram's most modest petitions, built on small understanding and a plea for mercy. Compare 0734, where the same modest petitioning appears, saying that words of compassion carry weight whether they are few or many — the same frame of humble asking, but here it is worked out through small understanding, lack of steadiness, and the plea to see God's feet. Calling himself the unfortunate one is the precise stance of a petitioner who has nothing to offer but his need.
