Inherited family tradition carries real knowledge, devotion, compassion, and rest, but it only reveals God when practiced with genuine, properly oriented faith.
The verse
कुळधर्म ज्ञान कुळधर्म साधन । कुळधर्में निधान हातीं चढे ॥१॥ कुळधर्म भक्ति कुळधर्म गति । कुळधर्म विश्रांति पाववील ॥ध्रु.॥ कुळधर्म दया कुळधर्म उपकार । कुळधर्म सार साधनाचें ॥२॥ कुळधर्म महत्व कुळधर्म मान । कुळधर्म पावन परलोकींचें ॥३॥ तुका म्हणे कुळधर्म दावी देवीं देव । यथाविध भाव जरीं होय ॥४॥

Kuḷa-dharma — jñāna-sādhana — nidhāna. Bhakti-gati — viśrāmti. Dayā-upakāra — sāra of sādhana. Mahatva-māna — pāvana paralōka. Tuka says: Dēvīm-Dēva — yathā-vidha bhāva.

The traditions and practices your family and community handed down to you carry real wisdom, not just habit. Followed sincerely, they can become a form of knowledge, a spiritual practice, a source of devotion, a path forward, and even a place of rest. Woven into them are compassion and generosity, which is really the essence of any spiritual discipline, and they carry honor and meaning that reach beyond this one life. But Tukaram is clear about one condition: none of this happens automatically. Inherited custom only reveals God to you when you bring it genuine, properly oriented faith.
मराठी: तुझ्या कुटुंबाने आणि परंपरेने तुला दिलेल्या रूढी-रिवाजांमध्ये केवळ सवय नाही, तर खरे शहाणपण दडलेले आहे. मनापासून पाळल्यास त्या ज्ञान, साधना, भक्ती, गती आणि विसाव्याचे साधनही बनू शकतात. त्यांच्यात दया आणि परोपकार गुंफलेले असतात, हेच खरे तर साधनेचे सार आहे, आणि त्या पुढच्या जन्मासाठीही महत्त्व आणि पावनता देतात. पण तुकाराम स्पष्ट सांगतात, हे आपोआप घडत नाही — कुळधर्म तेव्हाच देव दाखवतो, जेव्हा त्यात यथाविध खरा भाव असतो.
