Once you belong to someone and carry their mark, they are bound to care for you despite your flaws, because your neglect would reflect on them too.

समर्थाचें बाळ कीविलवाणें दिसे । तरी कोणा हांसे जन देवा ॥१॥ अवगुणी जरी जालें तें वोंगळ । करावा सांभाळ लागे त्याचा ॥२॥ तुका म्हणे तैसा मी एक पतित । परि मुद्रांकित जालों तुझा ॥३॥
Literal translation
Samartha-bāḷ — kīvilavāṇē — jana — laugh — Dēva. Avaguṇī — vōngaḷa — sāmbhāḷa. Tuka says: patita — mudrānkita — yours.
