Abhanga 1115

This abhang names the jōḍē-kēlyāviṇa-karma register.

When doer of sin and consenter fall equally — and you have to recognize this register

When poison by association; tyāga of durjana, sarva hita — and you accept this image

When stray buffalo from field; avoid by pretext — and you allow this image

The verse

केलें पाप जेणें दिलें आन्मोदन । दोघांसी पतन सारिके चि ॥१॥ विष नवनीता विष करी संगें । दुर्जनाच्या त्यागें सर्व हित ॥ध्रु.॥ देखिलें ओढाळ निघालिया सेता । टाळावें निमित्या थैक म्हुण ॥२॥ तुका म्हणे जोडे केल्याविण कर्म । देखतां तो श्रम न मानितां ॥३॥

Literal translation

English: Pāpa — anumōdana — dōghāmsi sārikē. Viṣa-sanga — durjana tyāga. Ōḍhāḷa sētā — nimitta thaika. Tuka says: karma kēlyāviṇa — dēkhatām śrama.

What it means

A strong moral abhang on consent and association. Four claims:

पाप-अनुमोदन — दोघ-सारिकें. Doer-and-consenter-fall-equally-claim.
विष-संग — दुर्जन-त्याग. Poison-by-association-claim. Viṣa (poison) to navanīta (fresh butter, which absorbs everything): just contact with poison ruins the butter; tyāga of durjana gives all hita.
ओढाळ-शेत — निमित्त-टाळ. Stray-cow-from-field-claim. (When you see a stray-buffalo coming-out of someone's field, avoid the scene with some excuse — to not become a witness or accomplice.)
Tuka: कर्म-केल्या-विण — श्रम-न. Karma-acquired-without-doing-claim. (Even witnessing-without-objection binds you in karma.)
