Abhanga 1160

Whose mansion is it really, whose hut, Tukaram asks; without the one Rama, both are equally worthless. Whose body, whose wealth; without Rama, everything simply perishes and passes away. All of it, he says, is just borrowed and temporary; without that one presence there's no true, lasting home anywhere. So why let yourself be fooled by the terror of chasing riches? Sing Rama's name instead, my friend.

When whose mandara, whose jhōparī; except Rāma, all phukarī — and you have to recognize this register
When whose kāyā, whose māyā; except Rāma, all jāyā — and you accept this image
When all celakta-hāra; except Rāma, no vāsāra — and you allow this image

For someone today

Whose mansion is it really, whose hut, Tukaram asks; without the one Rama, both are equally worthless. Whose body, whose wealth; without Rama, everything simply perishes and passes away. All of it, he says, is just borrowed and temporary; without that one presence there's no true, lasting home anywhere. So why let yourself be fooled by the terror of chasing riches? Sing Rama's name instead, my friend.
