Abhanga 1191

Whoever works to diminish love brings shame on their own face, not on the love itself.

When the durjana shames himself by diminishing the prema — and you have to recognize this register

The verse

Literal translation

Durjana tērā mū kālāthītō prēma ghaṭāyē.

Word-by-word gloss

What it means

Sākhyā 24 of 30 — sharp Kabīr-style anti-durjana invective. Durjana, your mū (face) is kālā (black with shame) — for you were diminishing the prēma. The durjana is shamed publicly: someone whose work is to ghaṭāyē (diminish) prema brings darkness on his own face.

[T]

For someone today

For today: durjana-mū-kālā; thītō-prēma-ghaṭāyē — diminishing the prema blackens your own face.
