Abhanga 1920

Intense bodily longing and anxious waiting for someone you love is not a flaw to hide but a sign of how deeply you care.

When you're checking your phone every few minutes for news you're desperate to hear.
When you feel your body tense with worry even though your mind is already elsewhere.
When you want to simply say out loud that you are anxious instead of masking it.

What it means

Prāṇa-in-throat + mind-at-feet abhang. Letter-sent-with-saints cluster.

The opening: puḍhē tarī chittī — kāya yē'īla tē ātāmahead, in chitta — what will come now?. What-will-the-future-bring? — anxiety.

The path-watch: maja sāngōniyām dhāḍī — vāṭa pāhātōm varāḍītell me, send (it) — I'm watching the path eagerly. Varāḍī = eagerly, intently. Send-me-news; I'm-watching-the-path eagerly.

The bodily-yearning-symptom: kaṇṭhī dharilā prāṇa — pāyāmpāśīm ālē manaprāṇa held in throat — mind come to the feet. The classical-bhakti-yearning-image: prāṇa about-to-leave through-the-throat (= dying-of-yearning); the mind has-already-arrived at-the-feet (= attention is fixed-on-the-Lord's-feet). The body-and-mind are split — body-dying, mind-already-with-the-Lord.

The closing: Tukā mhaṇē cintā — bahu vāṭatasē ātāmTuka says: worry — much now.
