Abhanga 1942
When your heart truly longs for home, no place and no company can give you peace until you are moving toward it.
The verse
Literal translation
Sitting near anyone — no samādhāna — the mind keeps revolving on that one (path). Moment-by-moment māhēra is remembered — no forgetting for one moment. Let-me-not-speak (so) I think — but at the moment, much remembers. The indriyas — the flow has fallen in that gait — they find rest right here. Single-minded eagerness to go to māhēra — Tuka says — the jīva has-been-gripped.

What it means
Single-minded-māhēra-yearning abhang.
The opening: baisatām kōṇāpē nāhīm samādhāna — vivarē hē mana tē chi sōīm — sitting near anyone — no samādhāna — mind revolves on that path. Wherever-the-bhakta-sits, no-fulfillment; the-mind-circles-only-Pandhari.
The moment-by-moment: ghaḍī ghaḍī maja āṭhavē māhēra — na paḍē visara kṣaṇa-bharī — moment-by-moment, māhēra remembered — no forgetting for one moment. Constant-remembrance.
The closing-grip: ēkasarē sōsa māhērāsī jāvē — Tukā mhaṇē jīvē ghētalāsē — single-minded eagerness to go to māhēra — Tuka says — the jīva has-been-gripped. Jīvē ghētalāsē = taken-by-the-jīva, gripped. The whole-jīva is-now-gripped by-this-single-eagerness.

For someone today
For today: no matter who I sit with, I find no peace — my mind keeps circling back to that one path home. Moment by moment I remember my true home; I don't forget it even for an instant. I tell myself not to speak of it, but in the moment it comes rushing back anyway. My senses have fallen into that same rhythm, and they find their rest only there. Tuka says: this single-minded longing to go home has taken hold of my whole being.
