Abhanga 1943

In separation from what you love, no amount of work or distraction quiets the restless waiting, and few people can fully understand it.

When you ask anyone passing through for news of someone you have not heard from in days.
When work keeps your hands busy but your mind keeps circling back to who or what you are missing.
When someone close to you still cannot fully understand the restlessness you are carrying inside.

The verse

Literal translation

No harm but can't stay still — no forgetting — what to do? Want to ask the kāpaḍī — they'll send a messenger to take me. Another — this mind doesn't like festivities — makes ṭakaḷā of māhēra. Much work done, much desperation — many days have passed, no meeting. Tuka says: his inner is not understood — much state in me.
