Abhanga 2250

The poet places complete trust in the saints as guides who look after his true good, carry him when he tires, and lead him to grace, and he vows to honor that trust.

When you rely completely on someone you trust to guide you through a hard stretch of life.
When you feel too worn out to continue and need someone to carry you the rest of the way.
When you've made a promise to stay faithful to a path and are determined to keep it.

The verse

Literal translation

At the saints' feet — my faith. In every bhāva I've become their dāsa. They themselves do all my hita — by which Gopāḷa shows kṛpā. When tired, they will carry me across — by joining with them, all sukha. Tuka says: I'll take the śēṣa fondly — I won't break the word I've spoken. ॥3॥

What it means

Viśvāsa-in-saints'-feet + they-do-my-hita + I-take-the-śēṣa abhang. Closes the 3-abhang saints-cluster (2248-2250) with ॥३॥.

The opening — faith at the saints' feet: santāñchiyā pāyīm mājhā viśvāsa — sarva-bhāvē dāsa jālōm tyāñchāat the saints' feet, my faith — in every bhāva I've become their dāsa. At the saints'-feet is-my-viśvāsa; in-every-bhāva I've-become their-dāsa.

The saints-do-my-hita: tē chi mājhē hita karitī sakaḷa — jēṇē hā Gōpāḷa kṛpā karīthey themselves do all my hita — by which Gopāḷa shows kṛpā. They themselves-do-all-my-hita, by-which Gopāḷa shows-kṛpā (= saints'-mediation triggers-Gopāḷa's-grace).

The carrying-across: bhāgaliyā maja vāhatīla kaḍē — yāñchiyātē jōḍē sarva sukhawhen tired, they will carry me across — by joining with them, all sukha. Bhāgaliyā = when tired/exhausted. Vāhaṇē kaḍē = to carry across (= take to the other side, as one carries a child). When tired, they'll-carry-me-across; by-joining-with-them, all-sukha.

The śēṣa and-vow: Tukā mhaṇē śēṣa ghē'īmna āvaḍī — vachana na mōḍīm bōlilōm tēTuka says: I'll take the śēṣa fondly — I won't break the word I've spoken. Śēṣa = remnant-of-prasāda, leftover-(of-the-saints'-food/teaching). I'll-take-the-śēṣa fondly; I-won't-break the-word I've-spoken.

The ॥३॥ colophon closes a 3-abhang saints-cluster (2248-2250): - 2248: message-via-Pandharī-pilgrims — beseeching pilgrims to-carry-the-message - 2249: saints-as-mediators — give-the-reminder-to-Pāṇḍuranga, don't-make-me-apart-from-feet - 2250: viśvāsa-in-saints'-feet — full-surrender-to-the-saints

The cluster moves: pilgrims → saints → full-trust-in-saints. A graduated-mediation-petition.
