Abhanga 2507
Surrendering life's whole burden to God settles a restless, anxious mind into deep peace and quietly dissolves the ego that clings to one's own name and pride.
The verse
Literal translation
Udvēga-run sat in āsana — the bundle fell on Nārāyaṇa. All-niśchinti certainty — no garbha-vāsa in this way. No living-by-own-name — Dēva took away abhimāna. Tuka says: one authority's grace — we walk in such poise.
What it means
THE ALL-CERTAINTY + NO-LIVING-BY-OWN-NAME ABHANG.
The bundle-on-Nārāyaṇa: paḍilē Nārāyaṇīm mōṭaḷē hē — the bundle fell on Nārāyaṇa. The whole-bundle (= life's-burden) has-fallen-on Nārāyaṇa. Surrender-image.
No-own-name: āpuliyā nāmvē nāhīm āmhām jiṇē — abhimāna tēṇē nēlā Dēvē — no living-by-own-name — Dēva took away abhimāna. Not-living-by-our-own-name (= ego); the-Dēva took-away abhimāna. The ego-loss-grace.

For someone today
Tukaram's restless, anxious running finally comes to rest, and the whole bundle of his life's burden falls onto Narayana. That surrender brings such deep certainty that he feels free from the cycle of birth itself. He no longer lives for his own name and reputation; God has quietly taken that pride away from him. Tuka says he now walks with the poise of someone standing entirely under another's authority and grace.
Where this applies
- When your mind keeps racing with worry and you finally let go and hand the whole burden over to God.
- When you feel a deep sense of peace after surrendering a problem you cannot control on your own.
- When you notice you have been living to protect your name and reputation rather than for something truer.
- When you realize your confidence or strength does not really come from yourself but from something greater working through you.
