Abhanga 2533

True rest and relief come not from your own striving but from resting in the company of saints, who sustain others quietly, the way a well by the river gives water to all who come.

When you feel worn out and unsure where to turn for relief.

When a calm, wise person's mere presence nearby steadies you.

When you wonder how any debt to life or grace could ever be repaid.

The verse

गोदे कांठीं होता आड । करूनि कोड कवतुकें ॥१॥ देखण्यांनीं एक केलें । आइत्या नेलें जिवनापें ॥ध्रु.॥ राखोनियां ठाव । अल्प जीव लावूनि ॥२॥ तुका म्हणे फिटे धनी । हे सज्जनीं विश्रांति ॥३॥

Literal translation

At Godāvarī-bank was a well — making delight. The watchers made one — the ready was carried by life-water. Keeping the place — placing small life. Tuka says: the master pays — viśrānti in saints.

THE GODĀVARĪ-WELL + VIŚRĀNTI-IN-SAINTS ABHANG.

The closing-image: phiṭē dhanī — hē sajjanīm viśrānti — master pays — viśrānti in saints. Viśrānti (rest) is-in-sajjans (saints).
