Abhanga 2552
For today: become hero by tyāga (renunciation) — let go what's empty .
When you're tempted by a shortcut that could damage your reputation later.
When you're deciding whether to let go of something worthless instead of holding onto it stubbornly.
When you're about to make a promise and aren't sure you can honor it.
The verse
Literal translation
What grows bad-name — avoid in all matters. Truth pleases good-being — that's the word for world. Become hero by tyāga — let go what's empty. Tuka says: false vow — blameable-action is darkness.
What it means
THE HERO-BY-TYĀGA ABHANG.
The line: hō'ijētē śūra tyāgē — become hero by tyāga (renunciation). The true heroism is in-renunciation, not-conquest.
