Abhanga 2567

Worldly entanglement never really touches the divine; a restless mind is what harms you, so stay fixed in surrender and God will embrace and lift you up.

When worldly complications distract you and you forget they don't actually touch your inner devotion
When you feel restless and tempted to waver from a commitment you have made
When guilt weighs on you and you need to see it as a burden you can set down rather than carry forever

The verse

Literal translation

For worldly, this expanse-entanglement — nothing reaches Dēva. Place head — never lift — at feet — at-the-place, don't budge. By shaken mind, melted form — pāpa is just-name of upādhi. Tuka says: Dēva with prīti embraces — keeps near, lifting.

What it means

THE PLACE-HEAD-NEVER-LIFT-AT-FEET ABHANG.

The instruction: ṭhēvāvā māthā tō nuchalāvā pāyīm — ṭhānyīñchiyē ṭhāñīm hālōm nayēplace head — never lift — at feet — at-the-place, don't budge. Place-the-head at-the-feet, NEVER LIFT-IT; at-the-place, don't-budge. Fix-yourself-at-the-feet, immovable.
