Tukārām's Deva-attribute praise. Deva (is) the knower, Deva (is) the knower — by his own authority alone, single-by-himself. Deva (is) wise, Deva (is) wise — knowing the inner, he behaves. Deva (is) separate, Deva (is) separate — unstained by defilement. The verse permits the bhakti-recitation: jāṇatā-chatura-nirāḷā.
The verse
देव जाणता देव जाणता । आपली च सत्ता एकाएकीं॥१॥
देव चतुर देव चतुर । जाणोनि अंतर वर्ततसे ॥२॥
देव निराळा देव निराळा । अलिप्त विटाळा तुका म्हणे ॥३॥
Literal translation
Deva jāṇatā Deva jāṇatā — Deva (is) the knower, Deva (is) the knower; āpalī cha sattā ekā-ekī — (by his) own sattā alone, single-by-himself. Deva chatura Deva chatura — Deva (is) chatura, Deva (is) chatura; jāṇōnī antara vartatsē — knowing the antara, he behaves. Deva nirāḷā Deva nirāḷā — Deva (is) nirāḷā, Deva (is) nirāḷā; alipta viṭāḷā Tukā mhaṇe — unstained by viṭāḷa, Tukā says.
