Abhanga 3702
When your gaze stays fixed on your true purpose, doubt loses its grip, and a heart full of genuine care and generosity never really lacks strength.
The verse
Literal translation
Drṣṭi-at-kāraṇa — śankā-doesn't-arise-pōṭa. Śūra-struts-raṇāngaṇa — santōṣa-in-maraṇa. Needed-kaḷavaḷā — no-uṇē-baḷa. Tukā: in-udāra-paṇa — no-uṇē-mana.
What it means
A 3-verse bhakti-valor text. When the gaze is at the purpose, no doubt arises; the brave one struts on the battlefield — finds santōṣa even in dying. What's needed is warm-concern — then no lack in strength. In generosity, no lack in mana.
For someone today
Tukārām says that when your eyes stay fixed on your true purpose, doubt has no room to grow inside you. He points to the brave warrior who walks the battlefield with pride, finding a kind of joy even in the possibility of dying, because the cause is bigger than the fear. What matters most is a genuine, warm-hearted care for what you are doing, because with that kind of heart, strength is never really lacking. And when you give of yourself generously, your mind, too, feels whole and unshaken.
