Abhanga 3728

Walk the path the sants have already marked, trust it, and call out God's name, because with real trust you will surely meet God there.

When you're stuck overanalyzing whether to act, instead of simply following a trusted path forward.

When you take comfort in a way of living that wise people before you have already walked and marked.

When you encourage someone else to trust a path you already know leads somewhere good.

The verse

करणें न करणें वारलें जेथें । जातों तेणें पंथें संतसंगें ॥१॥ संतीं हें पहिलें लाविलें निशाण । ते खुणा पाहोन गर्जें नाम ॥२॥ तुका म्हणे तुम्हीं चला या चि वाटे । भरवशानें भेटे पांडुरंग ॥३॥

Literal translation

On-path-where-doing-and-not-doing-removed-I-go-with-sant-sanga. Santas-planted-first-niśāṇa-looking-at-sign-roar-Name. Tukā: you-walk-this-vāṭa-Pāṇḍuranga-meets-by-bharvasā.

What it means

A 3-verse sant-marked-path text. I walk the path where doing-and-not-doing has been removed, in santa-sanga. The santas planted the first flag here; looking at the sign, I roar the Name. You walk this very path — Pāṇḍuranga meets you by trust. Beautiful directive — the path is marked, the flag is planted, the Name is the roar.

For someone today

Tukaram describes a path where all the anxious calculation about what to do and what not to do simply falls away, because he walks it in the company of sants. That path is already marked, since the sants were the first to plant a flag there, and seeing that sign is enough to make him call out God's name aloud. He turns to everyone listening and invites them to walk this very same path, promising that Pandurang will meet anyone who walks it with real trust.
