Abhanga 3994

A complete practice needs three things together: steady, uninterrupted commitment, full inner sincerity in body, mind, and speech, and the company of good, devoted people.

When you are tempted to chase shortcuts instead of committing to one honest practice.

When your words and outward actions do not match what you actually feel inside.

When you are trying to grow but feel isolated without supportive, like-minded people.

The verse

हरी तुझें नाम गाईन अखंड । याविण पाखंड नेणें कांहीं ॥१॥ अंतरीं विश्वास अखंड नामाचा । कायामनेंवाचा देई हें चि ॥२॥ तुका म्हणे आतां देई संतसंग । तुझे नामीं रंग भरो मना ॥३॥

Literal translation

Sing-Name-akhaṇḍa-no-other-pākhaṇḍa. Antara-akhaṇḍa-viśvāsa-Nāma — kāyā-mana-vāchā. Tukā: give-santa-sanga — Name-ranga-fill-mana.

What it means

A 3-verse three-fold-prayer. Hari, I'll sing your Name continuously; I know no other path. Give me unbroken trust in the Name within — by body, mind, speech. Now give me sant-sanga — let the colour of your Name fill my mind. The three requests: (a) Name-singing, (b) inner-trust by three faculties, (c) santa-sanga.

For someone today

Tukaram makes three clear requests here, one building on the next. First, he commits to singing God's Name without interruption, saying he does not know any other path and is not tempted by shortcuts or deviations. Second, he asks for that trust in the Name to be complete, reaching his body, mind, and speech all together, not just words on the surface. Third, he asks for the company of good, devoted people, sant-sanga, so that the color and feeling of the Name can actually soak into his mind. Together these three requests describe a full practice: steady action, inner sincerity, and supportive community, none of which work as well alone as they do together.

मराठी: तुकाराम इथे एकामागोमाग तीन स्पष्ट मागण्या करतात. पहिली, ते वचन देतात की देवाचे नाम अखंड गातील, आणि सांगतात की त्यांना दुसरा कोणताही मार्ग ठाऊक नाही, कोणत्याही शॉर्टकट किंवा वेगळ्या वाटेचा मोह त्यांना नाही. दुसरी, ते मागतात की नामावरचा विश्वास पूर्ण असावा, शरीर, मन आणि वाणी या तिन्हींपर्यंत पोहोचावा, फक्त वरवरचे शब्द नकोत. तिसरी, ते चांगल्या, भक्तिमान लोकांच्या सहवासाची, संतसंगाची मागणी करतात, जेणेकरून नामाचा रंग खरोखर त्यांच्या मनात भिनावा. या तिन्ही मागण्या मिळून एक पूर्ण साधना दाखवतात — स्थिर कृती, अंतरीचा प्रामाणिकपणा, आणि आधार देणारा सहवास — जे एकत्र आल्याशिवाय तितके प्रभावी होत नाहीत.
