Abhanga 4097

Praise spoken from real love and full surrender earns the trust that a powerful, caring presence will truly fulfill your heartfelt wish.

When you catch yourself praising someone or something out of habit rather than genuine feeling

When you have placed your trust in a higher power and are waiting anxiously for an answer

When you want reassurance that heartfelt devotion, not performance, is what truly moves the one you turn to

The verse

बोलिलों उत्कषॉ । प्रेमरस दाशत्वें ॥१॥ साच करिता नारायण । जया शरण गेलों तो ॥ध्रु.॥ समर्थ तो आहे ऐसा । धरिली इच्छा पुरवी ॥२॥ तुका म्हणे लडिवाळाचें । द्यावें साचें करूनियां ॥३॥

Literal translation

Spoke-utkarṣa — prema-rasa-dāsatva. Nārāyaṇa-makes-sācha — refuge-gone. Samartha-fulfills-iccha. Tukā: give-laḍivāḷa's-sāchē.

What it means

A 3-verse refuge-claim text. I have spoken high-praise — by the love-state of service. Nārāyaṇa makes it true — to him I have gone to refuge. The mighty-one is such — he fulfills the wish one holds. Give the spoiled-child's (request) by making it real.

Tukaram says his praise was not empty flattery but words born from real love and service, spoken to someone he had already surrendered to completely. He trusts that this powerful presence will make good on the wish he holds, the way a parent finally gives a favorite child what they have been asking for.
