Abhanga 4115

A life built consistently on truth in belief, action, and experience leaves a person so grounded in honesty that falseness has no real hold over them.

When you try to align what you believe, what you do, and what you actually experience so they all agree

When you notice how someone deeply honest seems unaffected by the tricks and lies around them

The verse

साच हा विठ्ठल साच हें करणें । संत जें वचनें बोलियेले ॥१॥ साच तें स्वहित साच ते प्रचित । साच वेद नीत सांगतील ॥२॥ तुका म्हणे घेती साच साच भावें । लटिकें वर्म ठावें नाहीं त्यांसी ॥३॥

Literal translation

Viṭṭhal-sācha — karaṇē-sācha — santas-vachan-sācha. Svahita-sācha-prachīta-sācha — Veda-nīti-sācha. Tukā: take-sācha-by-bhāva — laṭikēm-varma-not-known.

What it means

A 3-verse truth-doctrine text. This Viṭṭhal is true; this acting is true; what the santas spoke as word is true. True is one's welfare, true is experience-verification, true is what Veda's law speaks. Tukā says: they take truth-by-truth, by bhāva; the false-essence is not even known to them. Sixfold-affirmation of sācha (truth): (1) Viṭṭhal himself, (2) the right-act, (3) santas-word, (4) one's welfare, (5) prachīta (verified experience), (6) Veda-nīti.

For someone today

Tukaram lays out several things he calls simply true, Vithoba himself is true, right action is true, the words spoken by the saints are true, one's own real welfare is true, verified experience is true, and the moral law taught by the scriptures is true. He says people of real faith hold onto all of this truth through genuine feeling, and because they live so fully in truth, they do not even recognize what falseness looks like. The lesson is that a life built on consistent honesty in belief, action, and experience leaves little room for deception to take hold.

मराठी: तुकाराम अनेक गोष्टींना सरळपणे सत्य म्हणतात, विठोबा स्वतः सत्य आहे, योग्य कृती सत्य आहे, संतांनी बोललेले शब्द सत्य आहेत, स्वतःचे खरे हित सत्य आहे, पडताळलेला अनुभव सत्य आहे, आणि शास्त्रांनी शिकवलेला नीतिनियमही सत्य आहे. ते म्हणतात की खऱ्या श्रद्धेचे लोक हे सर्व सत्य मनापासून धारण करतात, आणि ते इतके पूर्णपणे सत्यातच जगतात की त्यांना खोटेपणा कसा दिसतो हेही कळत नाही. सातत्याने प्रामाणिक श्रद्धा, कृती आणि अनुभवावर उभारलेल्या आयुष्यात फसवणुकीला जागाच उरत नाही हाच यातील बोध आहे.
