Tukārām's kīvilavāṇā-wretched-doing-dōṣa; abhiḷāṣī-of-nārī-dhana-deceives; harms-trusting-no-reluctance; janma-in-vain canonical anti-double-life

The verse

Literal translation

Kīvilavāṇā-wretched-now — doing-dōṣa-no-vichāra. Abhiḷāṣī-of-nārī-dhana — deceives-people-falsely. Harms-trustful — no-kāṇṭāḷā-in-chitti. Tukā: didn't-come — janma-in-vain.

What it means

A 3-verse anti-double-life text. He's become piteous-wretched; doesn't even consider doing sins. Covetous of woman and money, he deceives people falsely. He harms those who trust him; holds no reluctance in his heart. Tukā says: he didn't truly come — his birth was in vain. Pair with 4239 (don't-take-dāna-of-craver), 4201 (outer-show-vs-inner anti-hypocrisy).

For someone today

Tukārām: the-one-who-deceives-without-reluctance-and-harms-the-trustful — didn't-truly-come-into-this-life.
