Abhanga 4461

Handing the results of your life, good and bad, over to God and keeping his feet remembered in your heart is what clears worry and brings real ease.

When something good or bad happens and you're tempted to claim it entirely as your own doing
When your mind keeps spinning with worry and you need a way to loosen its grip
When life's ups and downs feel overwhelming and you want to stop taking every twist so personally

The verse

Literal translation

Be-bhōktā-of-my-bhōga — all-anantā-śubha-aśubha. Remembering-feet-in-hrdaya — all-chintā-cleared. Achaḷa-doesn't-move — body's-movement-vaḷaṇa-by-prārabdha. Tukā: one-word-became — by-kīrtana-ārāṇuka.

What it means

A 3-verse surrender + body-driven-by-prārabdha text. Be now the experiencer of my experience-of-fruit — of all endless ones, both good and bad. Remembering your feet, I stayed with feet in my heart — then all worry was cleared. The unmoving does not move — the body's movement is just a curve by the already-set-fate. Tukā says: one single word became true — by doing kīrtana, came at-ease-state without anxiety. The 3-fold operation: (a) transfer-bhōktā-status to the Lord for-all-fruits-good-and-bad — (b) feet-in-hrdaya clears chintā — (c) achaḷa-witness + body-as-prārabdha-trajectory = non-doership. Pair with 2867 (ṭhevilē-Anantē equanimity), 2937 (deha-atīta), 2922 (karma-non-dual).

For someone today

Tukārām hands over ownership of everything that happens to him, both good and bad, asking God to be the one who truly experiences the results of his life instead of him gripping them as purely his own. He says simply keeping the Lord's feet remembered in his heart was enough to clear away all his worry. He draws a line between the deep, unmoving self that never actually shifts and the body, whose ups and downs are just following a path already set by past actions, so there's no need to take every twist and turn so personally. He ends by saying this became real for him through kīrtana, singing brought him into a genuine state of ease, free of anxiety.
