Tukaram teaches that even a trace of pride is a heavy burden, and that the real failure is not lacking opportunity to know God but never letting what you heard settle into your heart.
The verse

For someone today
Tukaram warns that even the smallest speck of pride can weigh as heavy as a mountain in the eyes of the divine, while God treats a sincere beggar as his equal. He imagines the tribunal of Yama, the god of death, questioning those who lived carelessly, asking them why they missed knowing Keshava when they had eyes to read, ears to listen, and a mouth to speak, and had even been in the company of saints who told them the truth. Their failure was not lack of opportunity, it was that they never let any of it settle into their hearts. Those who did let the divine names Rama and Krishna soak into them, Tukaram says, find their true home waiting for them.
Where this applies
- Tukārām's ananya-chāḍa + Yamadharma-tribunal + durjana-samhāra = avatāra canonical
