Abhanga 4498
Tukaram voices a gopi urging others that once you truly taste closeness with the divine, even briefly, lesser distractions stop feeling satisfying and you can never fully go back to how you lived before.
The verse
कृष्ण हा परिचारी कृष्ण हा वेव्हारी । कृष्ण घ्या वो नारी आणिकी म्हणे ॥१॥
म्हणे कृष्णाविण कैसें तुम्हां गमे । वळि हा करमे वांयांविण ॥२॥
वांयांविण तुम्हीं पिटीत्या चाकटी । घ्या गे जगजेठी क्षणभरी ॥३॥
क्षणभरी याच्या सुखाचा सोहळा । पहा एकवेळा घेऊनियां ॥४॥
याचें सुख तुम्हां कळलियावरि । मग दारोदारीं न फिराल ॥५॥
लटिकें हें तुम्हां वाटेल खेळणें । एका कृष्णाविणें आवघें चि ॥६॥
अवघ्यांचा तुम्हीं टाकाल सांगात । घेऊनि अनंत जाल राना ॥७॥
नावडे तुम्हांस आणीक बोलिलें । मग हें लागलें हरिध्यान ॥८॥
न करा हा मग या जीवा वेगळा । टोंकवाल बाळा आणिका ही ॥९॥
आणिका ही तुम्हा येती काकुलती । जवळी इच्छिती क्षण बैसों ॥१०॥
बैसों चला पाहों गोपाळाचें मुख। एकी एक सुख सांगतील ॥११॥
सांगे जंव ऐसी मात दसवंती । तंव धरिती चित्ती बाळा ॥१२॥
बाळा एकी घरा घेउनियां जाती । नाहीं त्या परती तुका म्हणे ॥१३॥
Literal translation
A long 13-verse text where one gopikā urges other women: Krṣṇa isparichārī(helper),vyavahārī(transactional), take-him, women! Without-him, life is empty time-pounding. Once his-sukha is-tasted, you-won't-roam-door-to-door anymore. Everything-else feels laṭike (false). You'll abandon-all-companions and-take Ananta to the-forest. Hari-dhyāna will-take-hold; you won't-let-the-life-be-separate from-him. Other-women-will-come-pestering, hoping for-a-moment near-him. Once the women take the Bāla home, Tukā says — they-don't-return.
What it means
A canonical extended Krṣṇa-līlā gopikā-evangelism text — one gopikā evangelizing-others about-Krṣṇa's-irresistible-fellowship. The chain of consequences: tasting-his-sukha → everything-else-felt-as-false → abandoning-all-companions → going-with-him-to-vana → not-returning. The escalating-bhakti-attraction.
For someone today
In this verse one gopi urges the other women to stop wasting their time and come take Krishna's company for themselves. She says that once you truly taste the joy of his presence, even for a moment, you will never again wander from door to door looking for satisfaction elsewhere, because everything else will start to feel hollow by comparison. She predicts that once this happens, the women will leave behind their usual companions and follow him into the wilderness, unable to turn back to their old way of living. The lesson is that real, tasted joy in the divine changes what you find satisfying forever, once you know it, lesser distractions stop being enough.
मराठी: या अभंगात एक गोपी इतर स्त्रियांना आपला वेळ वाया न घालवता कृष्णाचा सहवास स्वतःसाठी घ्या असे आग्रहाने सांगते. ती म्हणते की एकदा त्याच्या सान्निध्यातला आनंद खरोखर चाखला, अगदी क्षणभरही, की तुम्ही दुसरीकडे समाधान शोधत दारोदार भटकणार नाही, कारण त्याच्या तुलनेत बाकी सगळे पोकळ वाटू लागेल. ती भाकीत करते की एकदा हे झाले की स्त्रिया आपले नेहमीचे सोबती सोडून त्याच्यासोबत रानात जातील, आणि जुन्या आयुष्याकडे परत वळणार नाहीत. यातून हेच शिकायला मिळते की देवाच्या सान्निध्यातला खरा, चाखलेला आनंद तुम्हाला काय समाधान देते हे कायमचे बदलून टाकतो, एकदा तो कळला की छोट्या विचलनांनी मन भरत नाही.
