Tukaram gives a wonderfully simple definition of service: whatever you do, done with your heart turned toward God, is itself sevā — you don't need a separate category of holy acts set apart from ordinary life. When you live in that close companionship with God, it stops feeling like you alone are the one doing things; you become, in a real sense, a limb of God's own body, and the two act together. This single orientation, he says, is the hidden key to everything dharma has ever tried to teach — all the scripture and teaching ultimately points back to this one simple turning of the heart. And Tukaram seals it with the strongest kind of vow he knows, saying it three times over: true, true, true — this is beyond any doubt.

What it means

A short sevā-definition abhang. Three claims:

1. करणें तें देवा — हे चि एक पावे सेवा — the doing — to the deva — this very one becomes the sevā. The sevā-definition: anything done with theto-the-devaorientation becomes sevā. The sevā is not a special-category of action; it is any action with the to-the-deva orientation. (Compare 250's I-and-mine-stayed-distant — the same orientation in negative-form.)

2. अवघें घडे येणे सांग — भक्त देवाचें तें अंग — everything happens by this sanga — the bhakta is the deva's anga. Sanga — companionship, with-being. In-sanga-with-the-deva, everything happens. And: the bhakta is the deva's body. (Compare 266's foot-care comforts the eye; here the same body-unity but bhakta-as-anga of the deva.)

3. हें चि एक वर्म — काय बोलिला तो धर्म — this is the one varma — what dharma was told. Varma — secret-key, hidden-vital-spot. The varma of dharma is this: do-to-the-deva. (Compare 261's dharma-rakṣaṇa requires effort + sthiti-then-tyāga; here, the varma of dharma is the to-the-deva orientation.)

4. तुका म्हणे खरें — खरें — त्रिवाचा उत्तरें — Tuka says: true — true — trivacā word. The trivacā (thrice-spoken) word is the strongest oath-form: true, true, true. The closing-confirmation: this varma is true beyond doubt.
