Abhanga 751

However much you sing Viṭhōbā's qualities or gaze at his form, you never feel filled, and that endless wanting is itself the mark of real, measureless joy.

When no satiety from singing guṇa or gazing at rūpa — and you have to recognize this register

When Pāṇḍuranga is essence of all auspiciousness; mukha is siddhi-storehouse — and you accept this image

When sukha has no end, no count — and you receive this final stamp

The verse

धणी न पुरे गुण गातां । रूप दृष्टी न्याहाळितां ॥१॥ बरवा बरवा पांडुरंग । कांति सांवळी सुरंग ॥ध्रु.॥ सर्वमंगळाचें सार । मुख सिद्धीचें भांडार ॥२॥ तुका म्हणे सुखा । अंतपार नाहीं लेखा ॥३॥

Literal translation

Dhaṇī — na purē — guṇa — singing — rūpa — dṛṣṭi — nyāhāḷitām. Baravā baravā Pāṇḍuranga — kānti — sāmvaḷī suranga. Sarva-mangaḷa-sāra — mukha — siddhi-bhāṇḍāra. Tuka says: sukha — anta-pāra — lēkhā.

What it means

A no-dhaṇī-singing-guṇa-gazing-rūpa-Pāṇḍuranga-praise-essence-of-mangaḷa-sukha-no-end abhang. Pāṇḍuranga-praise register. Three claims:

धणी-न-पुरे गुण-गातां — रूप-न्याहाळतां. No-satiety-from-guṇa-or-rūpa-claim. Thedhaṇī(satiety, fullness) doesn't come —(even after) singing the guṇa, gazing at therūpawith thedṛṣṭi. No-satiety-from-singing-or-gazing.
बरवा-बरवा Pāṇḍuranga — कांति-सांवळी-सुरंग — सर्व-मंगळ-सार — मुख-सिद्धि-भांडार. Pāṇḍuranga-good-and-essence-of-mangaḷa-claim. Baravā baravā Pāṇḍuranga — kānti (radiance) is sāmvaḷī (dark-blue) and suranga (well-coloured);essence of sarva-mangaḷa (all-auspiciousness);the mukha is the bhāṇḍāra (storehouse) of siddhi. Pāṇḍuranga-good-essence-of-all-mangaḷa-mukha-storehouse-of-siddhi.
Tuka: सुख-अंत-पार-नाहीं-लेखा. Sukha-no-end-no-count-claim. Tuka says:sukha— noanta-pāra(end-shore, far-shore), nolēkhā(count, account-of). Sukha-uncountable-and-without-far-shore.

For someone today

No matter how much Tukaram sings God's qualities or gazes upon His form, he is never satisfied — there is always more to take in. Pandurang is beautiful beyond measure, his dark radiant complexion glowing, the very essence of all that is auspicious; his face is a storehouse of every perfection. Tukaram says that this joy has no far shore and no count — it simply cannot be measured or exhausted.

मराठी: तुकाराम कितीही देवाचे गुण गातात किंवा त्याच्या रूपाकडे पाहतात, तरी त्यांचे मन कधीच तृप्त होत नाही — नेहमी आणखी काहीतरी उरतेच. पांडुरंग अपार सुंदर आहे, त्याची सावळी कांती तेजाने उजळलेली आहे, तो सर्व मंगलाचे सार आहे; त्याचे मुख सिद्धीचा खजिना आहे. तुकाराम म्हणतात, हे सुख अपार आहे, त्याला अंत नाही, हिशेब नाही — ते मोजताच येत नाही, संपतही नाही.
