Guard what truly matters with a pure heart and store it deep within yourself, since that inner treasure is what will sustain you when everything else falls away.
The verse
जतन करीन जीवें । शुद्धभावें करूनी ॥१॥ विठ्ठल विठ्ठल हें धन । जीवन अंतकाळींचें ।ध्रु.॥ वर्दळ हें संचित सारूं । बरवा करूं उदिम हा ॥२॥ तुका म्हणे हृदयपेटी । ये संपुटीं सांटवूं ॥३॥
Literal translation
Jatana — jīva — śuddha-bhāva. Viṭṭhal — dhana — jīvana — antakāḷa. Vardaḷa — samcita — udima — barava. Tuka says: hṛdaya-pēṭī — sampuṭa — sāmṭavūm.

For someone today
Tukaram treats his own life as something to guard carefully, and he wants to guard it with a pure heart. He calls the name Vitthal his real wealth, the very thing that will sustain him at the moment of death. He wants to clear away the clutter of accumulated habits and worldly baggage, and instead run this business of devotion properly, like a trade worth doing well. In the end he says he will store this treasure safely in the strongbox of his own heart, where nothing can take it from him.
