Abhanga 2580
People look alike on the surface but carry different burdens and natures, so judge by what actually grows from within someone, not by outward appearance.
When you are tempted to lump people together instead of noticing their real differences
When you compare your struggles to someone else's without accounting for their different burden
When you need to judge yourself or someone else by what they actually produce, not by how they appear
The verse
हीनसुरबुद्धीपासी । आकृतीसी भेद नाहीं ॥१॥ एक दांडी एक खांदी । पदीं पदीं भोगणें ॥ध्रु.॥ एकाऐसें एक नाहीं । भिन्न पाहीं प्रकृती ॥२॥ तुका म्हणे भूमी खंडे । पीक दंडे जेथें तें ॥३॥
Literal translation
Low-pitch-buddhi-near — form has no bheda. One staff, one shoulder — bhoga at each step. One not like another — see different prakṛti. Tuka says: land in pieces — crop-tax where it grows.
