Literal translation
Jayāpāsōnī sakaḷa — (from him) from whom all; mahī-maṇḍala jāle — the mahī-maṇḍala (earth-circle) came into being. Tō eka Pandharīñcā rāṇā — that one is the rāṇā (king) of Paṇḍharī; nye śrutī anumānā — (he) does not come into śruti (Vedas) or anumāna (inference). Vivādatī jayāsāṭī — (those) for whom they dispute (in philosophy); Jagajeṭhī tō Viṭhṭhala — that Jagajeṭhī (world-conqueror) is Viṭṭhal. Tukā says: tō ākaḷa — he is ākaḷa (ungraspable); āhe sakaḷa-vyāpaka — (yet) is all-pervading (sakaḷa-vyāpaka).
What it means
A short canonical Viṭṭhal-origin verse. Jayāpāsōnī sakaḷa — mahī-maṇḍala jāle — from whom all — the earth-circle came into being. The cosmological-claim: the entire mahī-maṇḍala (world-circle) comes from him.
Tō eka Pandharīñcā rāṇā — nye śrutī anumānā — that one is Paṇḍharī's king — doesn't come into Vedas or inference. The radical claim: the supreme-cosmological-source is Paṇḍharī's-king (Viṭṭhal); he is beyond Vedas and inference.
Vivādatī jayāsāṭī — Jagajeṭhī tō Viṭhṭhala — for whom they dispute (in philosophy) — that Jagajeṭhī is Viṭṭhal. The Vārkarī-claim: the cosmic-disputed-Lord is precisely Viṭṭhal. Pairs with 2925 (formless-Viṭṭhal-everywhere).
The close: Tukā mhaṇe tō ākaḷa — āhe sakaḷa-vyāpaka — he is ungraspable — yet all-pervading. The paradox: ungraspable AND all-pervading. (Compare 2925 no-rūpa-no-nāma-yet-everywhere.)
For someone today
A canonical Viṭṭhal-origin text. From whom all — the earth-circle came into being. That one is the Paṇḍharī's-king — doesn't come into Vedas or inference. For whom they dispute — that Jagajeṭhī is Viṭṭhal. He is ungraspable — (yet) all-pervading. The verse identifies Viṭṭhal as the supreme-cosmological-source, beyond Vedas-and-inference, yet ungraspable-and-all-pervading. The Vārkarī-theological-position: Viṭṭhal-of-Paṇḍharpur is not a localized-deity but the absolute.
Where this applies
- The origin-of-mahī-maṇḍala = Paṇḍharī-king = Jagajeṭhī-Viṭhṭhal claim
- Recognizing Viṭṭhal-is-ungraspable-yet-all-pervading
- Doesn't-come-to-Vedas-or-anumāna — Viṭṭhal beyond-scripture-and-inference
- Pairs with 2925 (no-rūpa-no-nāma) and 2926 (puppet-thread image) as Viṭṭhal-cosmology-cluster
