Abhanga 3235
The Name is the one true source of shared strength, each person's experience of joy or pain is their own alone, and the only worthwhile ambition is closeness with the divine.
The verse
हें आम्हां सकळा । तुझ्या नामाचें चि बळ ॥१॥
करूं अमृताचें पान । दुजें नेणों कांहीं आन ॥ध्रु.॥
जयाचा जो भोग । सुख दुःख पीडी रोग ॥२॥
तुका म्हणे देवा । तुझे पायीं माझा हेवा ॥३॥
Literal translation
This-to-us-all — Nāma's-bala. We-do-amrta-pāna; don't-know-another. Each-bhōga-is-his — sukha-duḥkha-pīḍī-rōga. Tukā: Deva, hēvā-at-your-pāya.
What it means
A short 3-verse Name-strength claim. Each-bhōga-is-personal; the-Name is-our-amrta.
For someone today
Tukaram says that whatever strength holds all of us together ultimately comes from the divine Name, that's the one thing he drinks like nectar, and he wants nothing else. He acknowledges that each person's experience, whether joy, sorrow, pain, or sickness, belongs to them alone and can't be shared or transferred. His only real competitiveness, he says, is a wholehearted eagerness to be close to God.
