Abhanga 3258
In true kirtan there is no big or small, no separation between God and devotee, only shared joy, laughter, and love offered freely from within.
The verse
या रे हरिदासानो जिंकों कळिकाळा । आमुचिया बळा पुढें किती बापुडें ॥१॥
रंग सुरंग घमंडी नाना छंदें । हास्यविनोदें मनाचिये आवडी ॥ध्रु.॥
येणें तेणें प्रकारें बहुतां सुख जोडे । पूजन तें घडे नारायणा अंतरीं ॥२॥
वांकड्या माना बोल बोलावे आर्ष । येईंल तो त्यांस छंद पढीयें गोविंदा ॥३॥
आपुलालें आवडी एकापुढें एक नटा । नाहीं थोर मोठा लहान या प्रसंगीं ॥४॥
तुका म्हणे येथें प्रेम भंगूं नये कोणीं । देव भक्त दोन्ही निवडितां पातक ॥५॥
Literal translation
Come-Hari-dāsas, conquer-kaḷikāḷa; our-bala makes-(him)-bāpuḍa. Ranga-suranga-ghamaṇḍī-nāna-chande; hāsya-vinōda-mana's-fondness. By-various-ways much-sukha-joined; pūjana-happens to-Nārāyaṇa in-antara. Crooked-necked, words-spoken-ārṣa; whatever-comes, Govinda's-chanda is-pleasing. Each by-own-fondness, ahead-of-other, acting; no-big-medium-small here. Tukā: don't-break-prema; distinguishing-Deva-bhakta as-two is-pātaka.
What it means
A canonical 5-verse kīrtana-celebration text. In-the-kīrtana, there's no-hierarchy; the-Lord-and-bhakta are-one — distinguishing-them is-pāpa.
For someone today
Tukaram calls the devotees together to sing and celebrate, promising that their combined strength can overcome even hard times. In this gathering there is color, exuberance, laughter, and play, all coming from the heart's own delight, and through all these different expressions real worship reaches Narayana within. People sing with awkward voices and rough, unpolished words, and whatever comes out is still pleasing to Govinda. Everyone plays and performs after their own fashion, one following another, and in that moment there is no big or small, no rank at all. Tukaram insists that no one should break this love by treating God and devotee as two separate things, for that separation itself is the real wrongdoing.
मराठी: तुकाराम भक्तांना एकत्र येऊन गाण्या-साजरे करण्याचे आवाहन करतात, आणि सांगतात की आपल्या एकत्रित बळापुढे कठीण काळही थिटा पडतो. या मेळाव्यात रंग, उत्साह, हास्य आणि खेळ असतो, हे सगळे मनाच्या आनंदातून येते, आणि याच विविध प्रकारांतून खरी पूजा अंतःकरणातील नारायणापर्यंत पोहोचते. लोक बेसूर आवाजात आणि साध्या, अनघड शब्दांत गातात, तरी जे काही निघते ते गोविंदाला आवडते. प्रत्येकजण आपापल्या आवडीने एकापुढे एक खेळतो, नाचतो, आणि त्या क्षणी कोणी मोठा-लहान नसतो, कोणतीही उतरंड नसते. तुकाराम बजावतात की देव आणि भक्त हे दोन वेगळे आहेत असे मानून कोणीही हे प्रेम तोडू नये, कारण तोच भेद खरे पातक आहे.
