Abhanga 3263

Tukārām prays for the gift of true understanding. He asks the compassionate Lord to be the giver of buddhi — the wisdom that leads to real upliftment and gives him a firm foothold at the Lord's feet. He asks that his own voice speak only true devotion toward Pāṇḍuranga. And he asks the Lord to come and dwell within his heart. This is Tukārām's prayer that right understanding is a gift from the Lord, not something we can grasp on our own.

The verse

अवो कृपावंता । होई बुद्धीचा ये दाता ॥१॥ जेणें पाविजे उद्धार । होय तुझे पायीं थार ॥ध्रु.॥ वदवीं हे वाचा । भाव पांडुरंगीं साचा ॥२॥ तुका म्हणे देवा । माझे अंतर वसवा ॥३॥

Literal translation

Krpāvanta, be-dātā-of-buddhi. By-which uddhāra-attains, thāra-at-pāya. Speak-this-vāchā; satya-bhāva at-Pāṇḍurangī. Tukā: dwell-in-my-antara.
