Abhanga 3264

There is no secret mantra withheld from anyone; the same simple, steadfast faith that uplifted seekers before is open to everyone now.

When you suspect spiritual truth is being hidden or reserved for a select few.

When you need to hold your faith firmly while crossing a hard period in life.

When you wonder whether an ordinary, steady practice is enough without any secret technique.

The verse

नाहीं म्या वंचिला मंत्र कोणापाशीं । राहिलों जीवासीं धरूनि तो ॥१॥ विटेवरी भाव ठेवियेलें मन । पाउलें समान चिंतीतसें ॥ध्रु.॥ पावविला पार धरिला विश्वास । घालूनियां कास बळकट ॥२॥ तुका म्हणे मागें पावले उद्धार । तिहीं हा आधार ठेविलासे ॥३॥

Literal translation

No-mantra-vamchila-from-anyone; stayed jīva-grasping. On-vīṭā placed-bhāva-mana; pāule-chintīsē equally. Reached-pār by-viśvāsa, kāsa-baḷakaṭa. Tukā: those-uplifted-before kept-this-ādhāra.

For someone today

Tukaram declares that he hasn't hidden any secret formula for reaching God; the path he offers is the same one that carried seekers across before him. He says he has simply kept his life anchored in faith, fixing his mind and heart on the image standing on the brick, holding to it firmly, like tying a sturdy waistband before wading across a river. Because he trusted completely, he made it across. His point is that the very same foundation that uplifted the ancients is open to you too, without any secret or gatekeeping.

मराठी: तुकाराम सांगतात की त्यांनी कोणापासूनही कोणताही गुप्त मंत्र लपवून ठेवलेला नाही; त्यांनी दाखवलेला मार्ग हाच आहे जो आधीच्या साधकांना तारून गेला. ते म्हणतात, मी फक्त माझे मन आणि भाव विटेवरच्या त्या मूर्तीवर स्थिर ठेवले आणि जीव तिथेच धरून राहिलो, जणू नदी ओलांडताना कासोटा घट्ट बांधावा तसा विश्वास घट्ट धरला. पूर्ण विश्वासामुळेच ते पैलतीरी पोहोचले. त्यांचे म्हणणे असे की जो आधार पूर्वीच्या साधकांना तारून गेला, तोच आधार आजही तुमच्यासाठी खुला आहे, कोणताही गुप्त भेद न ठेवता.
