Literal translation
High-tide-of-brahmānanda came; Hari-Nāma-tāra, sail-caught-farāra. All-baisōnī, bāḷa-Gopāḷa walked. Tukā: vāṭa-found-niṭa.
What it means
A short 3-verse ship-image text. Tide-rising; pole-set-up by-Name; wind-catching sail; all-walking-with-Gopāḷa; path-found-straight.
For someone today
Tukaram paints a joyful picture of a boat setting sail on a rising tide of divine bliss. The mast is Hari's Name, and the sail has just caught a good, favorable gust of wind. All the children and companions of Gopal climb aboard together and set off with him, and Tukaram says the path they have found is good and straight. It is a picture of what devotion can feel like when it finally gathers momentum, carried forward easily, in good company, once the Name has become your steady support.
Where this applies
- When a practice you have been struggling to start finally gathers momentum and starts to feel easy
- When you notice that shared devotion with others, walking the same path together, lifts your spirits
- When you feel supported by something steady, like a repeated chant or name, that keeps you moving forward
- When a difficult effort suddenly feels like it has caught a favorable wind and everything lines up
