Give guidance and responsibility according to what each person can actually bear, matching the tool to the person and the moment rather than using one method for everyone.
The verse
अधिकार तैसा करूं उपदेश । साहे ओझें त्यास तें चि द्यावें ॥१॥
मुंगीवर भार गजाचें पालाण । घालितां तें कोण कार्यसिद्धी ॥२॥
तुका म्हणे फांसे वाघुरा कुर्हाडी । प्रसंगी तों काढी पारधी तो ॥३॥
Literal translation
Adhikāra-determines-upadeśa; give-ojhē-as-can-be-borne. Elephant-saddle on-ant — what-kāryasiddhi? Tukā: noose-trap-axe, hunter-takes-out per-occasion.

A canonical 3-verse pedagogical-claim. Don't-give-elephant-burden-to-ant; pick-the-tool-per-occasion.
For someone today
Teach or guide people according to what they can actually bear, not more. Tukārām says you wouldn't strap an elephant's saddle onto an ant and expect anything to come of it. A skilled hunter carries a noose, a trap, and an axe, and reaches for whichever one the moment calls for. In the same way, match your advice, responsibility, or burden to the real capacity of the person in front of you.
