Abhanga 3304
Like rain that falls equally everywhere, one true message is offered to everyone alike, and what grows from it depends entirely on each person's own faith and receptivity.
The verse
Literal translation
We're-abōlaṇe-now; one-vachana-to-all. Cloud-doesn't-consider-place; each-by-bhāva-bears-phala. Tukā: no-chāḍa-for-samādhāna; self-foiled-foils-others-ahead.
What it means
A short 3-verse text. We-speak-one-thing-to-all (like-cloud); each-receives-according-to-bhāva.
For someone today
Tukārām says he has just one message, offered the same way to everyone, like a cloud that rains without checking whose field it waters. What actually grows from that rain depends on each person's own faith and receptivity, not on any special treatment from the giver. He says he isn't chasing anyone's approval or satisfaction; he simply speaks the truth, and if someone lets it go to waste, that failure can end up misleading the people who come after them too.
Where this applies
- When you give the same advice to everyone but some people take it to heart and others let it pass
- When you feel you must convince or justify yourself instead of trusting people to receive things in their own way
- When you're a teacher, parent, or leader whose words reach many people, each one differently
- When you worry that one person's carelessness with good advice might mislead others who follow after them
