Abhanga 3407
In the raw impatience of longing to meet someone you love, all you ask for is that the original promise finally be kept.
The verse
भेटीची आवडी उतावळि मन । लागलेंसे ध्यान जीवीं जीवा ॥१॥
आतां आवडीचा पुरवावा सोहळा । येऊनी गोपाळा क्षेम देई ॥ध्रु.॥
नेत्र उन्मळित राहिले ताटस्त । गंगा अश्रुपात वहावली ॥२॥
तुका म्हणे तुम्ही करा साचपणा । मुळींच्या वचना आपुलिया ॥३॥
Literal translation
Meeting-yearning, mana-impatient — dhyāna-fixed jīvī-jīvā. Now-fulfill-the-loved-festival — come-Gopāḷa give-kṣēma. Eyes-upturned-stay-still — Gangā-of-tears-flows. Tukā: keep-sāchapaṇa of-your-mūḷīñchyā-vachanā.

Tukaram describes the raw impatience of longing to meet someone he loves deeply, his mind restless, his whole attention fixed on that one presence. He asks for the meeting to finally happen, for Gopal to come and give him the comfort of an embrace. His eyes stay lifted and unmoving, tears flowing like a river, showing just how much this waiting has cost him. In the end he asks for nothing more than honesty, that the promise made at the very beginning actually be kept.
