Abhanga 3433
Let go of pride and stiffness and ask directly to be freed from what overwhelms you, trusting that real connection dissolves the struggle.
The verse
Literal translation
No-tāṭha-no-abhimāna — without-you jīva-kṣīṇa. Durdhara-māyā — no-release; Vaikuṇṭha-nāyaka-release-me. Tukā: on-darśana — all-removed.
What it means
A short 3-verse anti-pride petition. I don't want stiffness or pride; release me from this māyā; with darśana all will be removed.
For someone today
Tukaram prays honestly to be free of stiffness and pride, aware that without real connection to God his spirit grows weak and depleted. He describes the pull of worldly illusion as almost unbearable, something he can't escape by his own strength alone. So he turns directly to God, the lord of Vaikuntha, and simply asks to be set free. He trusts that once that vision, that real encounter, happens, all his struggles will be resolved on their own.
Where this applies
- When you notice pride or stubbornness making you feel disconnected and worn down
- When the pull of everyday distractions and worldly concerns feels impossible to escape alone
- When you finally ask directly for help instead of struggling silently on your own
- When you trust that one real moment of clarity or connection could resolve many smaller struggles
