Abhanga 3468

Long effort finally ripens into a settled, contented mind, and that quiet satisfaction is itself the best omen.

When years of practice finally start to feel effortless and natural.
When you sense that it is safe to stop worrying about what comes next.
When a deep contentment settles over your mind and feels like a sign you are on the right path.

The verse

Literal translation

Many-janmas-of-sōsa — pariṇāma-came. Viṭhṭhal-Name-at-kaṇṭha — āvaḍī-in-pōṭa-samchita. Here-to-there no-chintā. Tukā: mana-dhālē — dāna-of-śakuna.

What it means

A 3-verse fulfillment-text. Many lifetimes of effort have ripened; the Name is at my throat; from here onward, no worry; the mind is satisfied — this is the gift of a good omen.

For someone today

Tukaram looks back over what feels like many lifetimes of striving and says the effort has finally ripened into something real. The Name of Vitthal now sits naturally at his throat, and the longing he carried in his heart has become his stored merit. From here on, he says, there is no need to hold onto worry. He calls the simple contentment of his own mind the best good omen anyone could receive.
