Abhanga 3501

When your restless mind keeps returning to what truly grounds it, excuses stop working, and full surrender dissolves the line between self and other.

When your restless thoughts eventually settle back at the one place you truly trust.

When you stop making excuses because you know you are already fully seen.

When you give both your happiness and your pain over instead of carrying them alone.

The verse

करूनी चिंतन खेळों भोवतालें । चित्त येथें आलें पायांपाशीं ॥१॥ येथें नाहीं खोटा चालत परिहार । जाणसी अंतर पांडुरंगा ॥ध्रु.॥ सुखदुःखें तुज देऊनी सकळ । नाहीं ऐसा काळ केला आम्ही ॥२॥ तुका म्हणे जाला देहाचा विसर । नाहीं आतां पर आप दोन्ही ॥३॥

Literal translation

Doing-chintana-I-play-around — chitta-came-to-feet. No-false-parihāra-here — you-know-antara-Pāṇḍurangā. Sukha-duḥkha-given-to-you-entirely — no-such-kāḷa-made. Tukā: deha-forgotten — no-para-and-āpa-both-now.

What it means

A 3-verse resolution-text. I play-around in chintana, but my chitta has come to the feet; no false excuses; you know everything; sukha-duḥkha all given to you; deha-forgotten; no other-and-self.

For someone today

Tukaram admits that even as his mind wanders and plays around in thought, it keeps circling back and settling at Pandurang's feet. He says there is no use offering false excuses here, because Pandurang already knows his inner state completely. He has given over both his joys and his sorrows, holding nothing back for himself. In the end, he says he has forgotten the body entirely, and the old line between self and other has stopped mattering.

मराठी: तुकाराम कबूल करतात की त्यांचे मन विचारांमध्ये भटकत राहते तरी ते पुन्हा पुन्हा पांडुरंगाच्या पायाशी येऊन स्थिरावते. ते म्हणतात की इथे खोटी सबब चालत नाही, कारण पांडुरंगाला त्यांची आतली स्थिती आधीच पूर्णपणे माहीत आहे. त्यांनी आपले सुख आणि दुःख दोन्ही देवाच्या हाती दिले आहे, स्वतःसाठी काहीच राखून ठेवलेले नाही. शेवटी ते म्हणतात की देहाचा विसर पडला आहे, आणि आता स्व आणि पर यातला भेद उरलेला नाही.
