Abhanga 3512

When you are truly present together with what you love, that shared attention is enough, and the past loses its weight.

When you feel someone's full attention resting on you, and it satisfies a deep hunger.
When your restless mind settles into one genuine joy instead of chasing many things.
When the present moment feels so true and complete that the past no longer matters.

The verse

Literal translation

Your-mana-with-me — my-bhūka-tāna-here. Jihvā-rejoicing-at-one-place — what-of-the-second. My-kavatuka — you-stand-watching-bhātuka. Tukā: when-sācha — what-of-past.

What it means

A 3-verse mutual-presence text. Your mind is with me; my hunger-thirst is here. The tongue rejoices at one-place; no need to talk about another. You stand watching my charming-play, my toy-meal. When it's true, the past is nothing.

For someone today

Tukaram describes a moment of complete mutual presence: God's mind stays with him, and his own hunger and thirst find their rest right there. His tongue delights fully in that one place, so there is nothing left to say about anything else. He pictures God simply standing and watching his charming, childlike play, like watching a little one at a toy meal. When something is this real and true, he says, there is no need to think about the past at all.
