Abhanga 3580
Sometimes you cannot see that things worked out for good while you are living through them, only in looking back does the settlement, and the peace it brings, become clear.
The verse
पाहातां हें बरवें जालें । कळों आलें यावरी ॥१॥
मागिलांचा जाला झाडा । त्या निवाडास्तव ॥ध्रु.॥
विसांवलें अंग दिसे । सरिसे अनुभव ॥२॥
तुका म्हणे बरें जालें । देवें नेलें गवसूनि ॥३॥
Literal translation
Pāhātām he barave jāle — looking, this has become good; kaḷōm āle yāvarī — (it) has come known on this. Māgilāmcā jālā jhāḍā — the jhāḍā of previous matters is done; tyā nivāḍāstava — through that nivāḍā. Visāmvale anga dise — body appears rested; sarise anubhava — together with anubhava. Tukā mhaṇe bare jāle — Tukā says: it has become good; deve nele gavasūnī — Deva took, encompassing.
What it means
A 3-verse all-is-well text. Looking-now, it's-become-good — the-recognition-arrived; previous-accounts have-been-cleared by-decision; the-body-rests, and-anubhava is-here; Deva-has-taken-me-encompassing (gavasūnī). The settlement-image: jhāḍā and nivāḍā (legal-accounting-and-decision) — applied to the bhakta's-samsāra-balance-sheet.
For someone today
Tukaram looks back and realizes, only now, that everything has actually turned out well. He describes it like settling an old account, the long tangle of past troubles has finally been cleared and decided, and only in that clearing does the goodness become visible. His body feels rested, and that rest itself becomes proof, a direct experience confirming that God has taken him in completely. Sometimes you cannot see that things worked out for good while you are living through them, only in looking back does the settlement, and the peace it brings, become clear.
मराठी: तुकाराम महाराज मागे वळून पाहतात आणि आत्ता, या क्षणी, त्यांना जाणवतं की सगळं खरोखर चांगलं झालं आहे. ते याचं वर्णन एखादा जुना हिशोब चुकता झाल्यासारखं करतात, भूतकाळातल्या अडचणींची लांबलचक गुंतागुंत अखेर सुटली आणि निकाली निघाली, आणि तेव्हाच ती चांगुलपणा दिसू लागतो. त्यांचं शरीर विसावल्यासारखं वाटतं, आणि हा विसावाच त्यांना प्रत्यक्ष अनुभवातून खात्री देतो की देवाने त्यांना पूर्णपणे आपलंसं केलं आहे. कधीकधी गोष्टी चांगल्यासाठीच घडत असतात हे जगत असताना दिसत नाही, मागे वळून पाहिल्यावरच तो निकाल आणि त्यातून मिळणारी शांती स्पष्ट दिसते.
