Abhanga 3630
When you have nothing left to ask, set aside your own clever plans, rest your trust at God's feet, and simply keep following without giving in to despair.
The verse
Literal translation
What-more-vinavi — nothing-left. Paṇḍharīnāthā — māthā-at-your-pāya. Yukti-I-had-set-aside. Don't-make-nirāśā-āsa — Tukā-dāsa-māghārī.
What it means
A 3-verse end-petition. Nothing more to ask; my head at your feet; the contrivance I had is set aside; don't push me into despair — Tukā the dāsa is behind you.
For someone today
Tukaram reaches a point where he has nothing left to ask for; he has said it all already. So he simply rests his head at Pandharinath's feet and lets that be enough. He has set aside all his own clever plans and strategies, the tricks he once relied on to manage his life. His last request is simple: do not let despair take hold of him, because he, God's servant, is walking right behind, following wherever God leads.
Where this applies
- When you have said and asked everything you can and simply need to rest in surrender
- When you finally let go of the clever plans and strategies you used to rely on to control your life
- When despair is creeping in and you need to hold onto trust instead
- When you feel your role is simply to keep following faithfully, even without knowing the destination
