Abhanga 3723

When the heart settles fully in God, ceaseless joy replaces restlessness, the sense of separate self dissolves, and the exhausting feeling of inner division falls away.

When you are so at peace or absorbed that you barely notice time passing or feel the need to rest.
When you catch your mind clinging to I and mine and wish for that grip to loosen.
When you feel tired not from work but from being pulled between conflicting parts of yourself.

The verse

Literal translation

Niśī-vanished — how-don't-see-nidrā. Nārāyaṇī-ghara-settled — nirantara-ānanda. Place-all-rudhavilā — mine-and-me-taken-vāva. Tukā: at-one-place-let-us-be — no-sīna-bhinna.

What it means

A 3-verse settled-state text. The night has vanished — how come I don't see sleep? In Nārāyaṇī, my house has settled, ceaseless ānanda; the whole place has been blocked-up, mine-and-me taken-as-void; at one place let us be — no fatigue-of-difference. Beautiful sleepless-ānanda image.

For someone today

Tukaram describes a state so full of joy that the night simply disappears and he cannot even find sleep, because his heart has settled permanently in God and feels ceaseless happiness there. In that state, the sense of I and mine gets swallowed up into emptiness, as if the whole space of his own separate self has been blocked off. What remains is a single, unified place to rest in, with no more tiredness that comes from feeling split or divided inside.
