Abhanga 3919

The verse

Literal translation

Long-jaṭā-kāsōṭā-huge-abhimāna. Vibhūti-on-anga-wants-miṣṭāna. Tukā: not-svadharma — mithyāvāda.

What it means

★ Verse 2 of the 7-abhang anti-fake-renunciate cluster. He grows matted-hair long, wears a tucked-up loincloth, with great pride. He puts sacred-ash on his whole body — but watches for fine-food to eat. This is not their proper-conduct; without knowing the essence, it's false-talk. The jaṭā-yogi-type — long-hair-and-vibhūti is the outward-form; the inward-reality is pride-and-greed.

For someone today
