Abhanga 4137
True generosity leaves no gap in care, honoring each person according to what fits them, and can surround you completely, inside and out.
The verse
पावलों प्रसाद इच्छा केली तैसी । जालें या चित्तासी समाधान ॥१॥
मायबाप माझा उभा कृपादानी । विटे सम जोडूनि पादांबुजें ॥ध्रु.॥
सांभाळासी येऊं नेदी च उणीव । अधिकारगौरव राखे तैसें ॥२॥
तुका म्हणे सर्व अंतर्बाहए आहे । जया तैसा राहे कवळूनी ॥३॥
Literal translation
Pāvalōm-prasāda — iccha-fulfilled — chitta-samādhāna. Māyabāpa-on-brick-krpā-dānī — pādāmbujē-joined-evenly. No-uṇīva-in-sāmbhāḷa — adhikāra-gaurava-keeps. Tukā: sarva-antar-bāhē — kavaḷūnī-stays-accordingly.
What it means
A 3-verse received-prasāda text. I have received the gift; my wish was fulfilled — there's contentment in this heart. My mother-father stands as grace-giver — on the brick, with sacred-feet evenly joined. He doesn't let any deficit come to (my) care; he keeps each one's appropriate honor accordingly. He is within-and-without — whoever the bhakta is, he stays enclosed-and-embracing accordingly. The closing adhikāra-gaurava-rākhē-taisē (he keeps each one's appropriate honor) is a striking image of Lord's differential-attentiveness — he treats each according to that one's appropriate-honor.
For someone today
Tukaram describes the deep contentment that comes when a heartfelt wish is finally fulfilled, as if God himself stood before him as a gracious parent giving freely. He notices that this generosity never leaves any real gap in his care, and that God treats each devotee according to what is fitting for them, honoring each person's own place. What moves him most is the sense that this presence surrounds him both inside and out, holding him close no matter who he is.
मराठी: तुकाराम त्या खोल समाधानाचे वर्णन करतात जे मनापासूनची इच्छा शेवटी पूर्ण झाल्यावर मिळते, जणू देवच एका उदार आईवडिलांप्रमाणे समोर उभा राहून भरभरून देतो आहे. ते लक्षात घेतात की ही उदारता त्यांच्या काळजीत कधीच कमतरता येऊ देत नाही, आणि देव प्रत्येक भक्ताला योग्य तसा वागवतो, प्रत्येकाचा मान राखतो. त्यांना सर्वात जास्त जाणवते ते म्हणजे ही उपस्थिती त्यांच्या आत आणि बाहेर दोन्हीकडे भरून राहते, ते कोणीही असोत, त्यांना जवळ धरून ठेवते.
